The Reverend C. Hale Bishop - Senior Pastor
Originally from Albany, GA.. Reverend Bishop joined our Park Avenue UMC staff in June 2011. His parents are Rhen (deceased) and Beverly Bishop. Hale and his lovely wife, Meg Kennedy Bishop (also from Albany) have been married for nearly 25 years Meg is the daughter of Gordon and Jean Kennedy of Albany Ga. Hale and Meg have two daughters, Taylor, a 20 year old Sr. at Wesleyan College in Macon and Abi who is 16 years old and a rising Jr. in high school. Hale grew up in Porterfield UMC in Albany and later became a charter member of Christ UMC. While a youth, he was the president of the youth group at Porterfield during his Jr. year and of Christ UMC youth group his Sr. year. Hale also served as a district youth representative and served on the conference council of youth ministries from 7th-12 grade. He is a second career minister and has previously worked in plumbing supply sales. Hale was a partner in Albany Winnelson as well as Thomasville Winnnelson Co.


Hale and his family have been in ministry since 1993 when he first served as Youth Pastor at Camilla UMC, and Swainsboro First UMC. From 1999-2001, Hale served as Associate Pastor at Valdosta First UMC and in 2001 was ordained Elder in the South Georgia Conference. He was appointed Sr. Pastor at Trinity Chapel UMC in Tybee Island, from 2001-2007, until his appointment to Sr. Pastor of First UMC in Moultrie. Hale has been on several conference boards and agencies including: Disaster Relief Coordinator for the Thomasville, Valdosta and Savannah Districts, District Youth Coordinator, Valdosta District Board of Ordained Ministries and the Conference Board of Ordained Ministires.

Additionaly, Hale is a trained Stephen Minister as well as having been trained and has taught "Christian Believer". He has been on the Walk to Emmaus and has served as a laity and later as a spiritual director.
  Hale has been involved in Discipling for 10 years, being discipled and discipling one-on-one. In addition, he is now leading a Next Generation Mentoring group. Another interesting disciple building effort was "10 Brave Christians" in which he has led 2 groups through while in Moultrie.

Hale is a graduate of Westover High, Albany, class of 1981. He has an Associate Degree in History from Darton College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in History from Albany State University. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Hale attended Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, SC where in 1997 he received a Mdiv (Master of Divinity).

The Reverend David H. Tart, III - Pastor of Visitation

Pastor David joined the Park Avenue UMC staff in February of 2008, and assists the Senior Pastor in pastoral visitation and recruiting new members.  He teaches "The Sojourners," an adult Sunday school class.

Pastor David has been serving as a pastor for 45 years and has served as Senior Pastor of five churches and as an Associate Pastor of one church.  Pastor David’s last church to serve before moving to Valdosta was Wilmington Island United Methodist Church in Savannah, Georgia. Park Avenue UMC is his seventh church to serve.

Pastor David grew up in Valdosta, Georgia, and is a graduate of Valdosta High School and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.

Pastor David has been married to the former Sylvia Mullins of Macon, Mississippi, for over 46 years.  They have one daughter and one son and one grandson.  Pastor David enjoys playing golf, hunting and fishing.
